Here is a stunning plate of fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are three wonderful examples of Diplomystus dentatus on this large, unbroken slab. All three of the fish are complete and exhibit excellent detail. The bone structure is beautifully preserved, and the fins of the herring are easily seen. The eye sockets are clearly defined, and the upturned mouths of the fish are wonderfully displayed. The natural, orangish-brown color of the fish contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. The fish are nicely positioned on the plate of shale that also contains two fish coprolites. This is an extremely displayable plate of Diplomystus from the Green River Formation.
