This is an extremely rare fossil fish from an unusual location. This fish was discovered at the famous Eocene fossil plant locality near Bonanza, Utah. Very few fish have ever been found at this site. The fish looks somewhat like Amia, although we are unsure of the exact identification. The fish appears to be a hatchling - the ''bones'' appear to be unossified. The extremely large eyes are quite evident and even the fins can be seen. The dark-colored fish contrasts nicely with the khaki-colored matrix. The fossil is extremely well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a wonderful specimen of a very uncommon fossil fish.
