This is a very nice fish fossil. It is a large Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fish is well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the fins are intact and easily seen. The natural, orangish-brown color of the fish contrasts wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very good example of a large Diplomystus from the Eocene.
