Here is a very unusual fish. This is an excellent Eohiodon falcatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This type is called a "mooneye", and is a predatory fish. This specimen exhibits great detail. The bone structure is well preserved and the fins are easily seen. Many small, pointed teeth are wonderfully displayed in the mouth of the fish. The natural, dark brown coloration of the fish contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of this highly uncommon fossil fish.
