Here is an incredible plate of extinct sea life from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. This slab contains an unidentified fish and a wonderfully-preserved eel. Fossil eels are EXTREMELY RARE in the fossil record and this is a superb example. Both fossils exhibit great detail - the bone structure is beautifully displayed. These fossils have not been painted or enhanced - which is highly unusual for this site. The natural orangish color of the fossils contrasts well with the light tan matrix. They are nicely presented on the hand-chipped plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very collectible specimen of a fossil eel that just happens to have a fine, complete fish on the plate.
