Here is an interesting platter of fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are two different types of fish on the plate. On the left side of the slab is a very nice example of Knightia humilis. This fossil herring has good bone structure and even preserves the scale pattern. A wonderfully detailed specimen of Diplomystus dentatus is present on the right side of the plate. This fish has great bone structure and the fins are beautifully displayed. The dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. They are well positioned on the rounded plate of shale that also contains several partial impressions of other fish. This is a very pretty example of two different fish from the Fossil Lake deposits.
