Here is a beautiful fossil fish. This is a very large Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. This fish is wonderfully articulated and shows exquisite detail. The bone structure is clearly defined and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The eye socket is easily seen and the upturned mouth adds a certain charm. The orangish-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate. This is a spectacular specimen of Diplomystus that would be very attractive in home or office.
