Here is a very nice fossil fish. This is Knightia humilis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil fish is complete and has fine detail. The bone structure is easily seen and the fins are clearly defined. The eye socket is very distinct and even the scale pattern of the fish is apparent. The fish has excellent, natural, brownish color and contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. The large Knightia is nicely positioned on the plate that also contains a specimen of an unidentified, juvenile fish. This is a very good specimen of a fossil herrring from the Green River Formation.
