Here is a very aesthetic fossil fish. This "tropical" fish is Aipichthys velifer from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this part of the world are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This well-articulated fossil fish exhibits superb detail - the bone structure is clearly defined and the large fins are beautifully displayed. The bright orange coloration of the fish contrasts wonderfully with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well centered on the rectangular plate of sub-lithographic limestone. This is a great example of this exotic fish from the Cretaceous sea.
