Here is a beautiful fossil fish from the Jurassic. This is Anaethalion knorri from the Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This specimen was collected many years ago and prepared by hand with small knives and needles. We recently obtained this gorgeous fossil from an old German collection. The specimen even retains the old collection label on the back of the plate. This streamlined-looking fish is beautifully articulated and exhibits exquisite detail. The bone structure is easily seen and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The orangish color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the hand-chipped plate of lithographic limestone. This is a spectacular example of a fossil fish from this famous site.
