Here is a very attractive fossil fish. This is Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is complete and preserves fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is wonderfully defined. The eye socket of the fish is easily seen and the fins are nicely displayed. The upturned mouth of the fish adds a certain flair to the fossil. The fossil has great color and contrast. It is almost perfectly centered on the oval plate of shale. This is a very aesthetic fossil fish from the Green River Shale.
