This is a great specimen of Eohiodon falcatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This is a very rare predatory fish - only a few of these are found each year. This fossil "mooneye" exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure and fins are wonderfully defined. The mouth of the fish displays many teeth. The dark brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well positioned on the oval plate of shale. This is a very fine specimen of this scarce fish.
