Here is a very pretty specimen of a rare fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Amphiplaga bracyptera from the Green River Formation. Only a handful of these fish are found each year. This specimen exhibits wonderful detail. The bone structure is superb and the eye socket is easily seen. The fins are complete and beautifully extended and the open mouth is nicely displayed. The orangish-brown fish contrasts extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an excellent specimen of this rare fish.
