This is a very nice specimen of Eohiodon falcatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This is a very rare predatory fish - only a few of these are found each year. This fossil "mooneye" exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure and fins are nicely displayed. One can even see the scale pattern of the fish. The orangish fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is almost perfectly centered on the plate of shale. This is a very showy specimen of this scarce fish.
