This is an unusual fish. It is a large Knightia sp. from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is extremely well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen. The fins are very defined. The gill covers are quite evident. This fish has excellent, dark color and contrasts very nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the oval plate. This is a beautiful example of a fossil fish from the Eocene.
