This is a very nice fossil fish specimen from the Eocene of Wyoming. It is a Diplomystus dentatus (herring) from the Green River Formation. This fossil fish exhibits very fine detail. The eye socket is very distinct. The bone structure of the fish is easily seen. The fins are beautifully displayed. The fossil has good brown color and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the plate of matrix. This is a great example of a fossil herring from Wyoming.
