This is a very exotic specimen from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increaingly difficult to obtain. This tropical-looking fish is an undetermined species of Exocoetoides. This rare fish exhibits fantastic detail. The fins and bone structure of the fish are nicely displayed. The eye socket is easily seen. The fish has superb color and contrast. It is well centered on the oval plate of matrix. There is also a small, different type of fossil fish on the plate. It is positioned directly in front of the mouth of the Exocoetoides. This is a very nice specimen of this unusual fish.
