Here is a very rare fossil fish from the Green River Formation. This wide-bodied fish is Knightia alta. Very few of these fish are found in the fossil lake deposits. The fossil exhibits fine detail. The eye socket is easily seen. The fins are nicely displayed. The bone structure is quite evident. The fish has rich, brown color that contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular matrix plate. This is a ver nice specimen of an unusual species of fish from the Eocene of Wyoming.
