This is an unusual fossil fish. It is a large Peipiaosteus sp. from China. When it was first discovered, this type was thought to be a fossil shark, but further research found it to be a fossil sturgeon. This large, side view, specimen has great natural color and the contrast against the light-colored matrix is exceptional. The head exhibits excellent detail and all the fins are fully intact and very detailed. This is one of the best examples of this type we've seen.
