This is a very detailed specimen of Diplomystus dentatus from the Eocene of Wyoming. This fossil herring is from the Green River Formation. The specimen exhibits great bone and fin structure. The eye socket is very distinct. The fish has great brown color and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well displayed on a semi-rectangular plate of shale. There is also another partial Diplomystus on the plate. This is a very nice example of a fossil fish.
