This is a nice specimen of a fossil herring from the Green River Shale of Wyoming. This Diplomystus dentatus is from the Eocene. The specimen is very nicely articulated and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is superb. The fin detail is excellent. The eye socket is well displayed. The natural orangish-brown color of the fish contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is well positioned on a rectangular block of matrix. This is a fine specimen of Diplomystus with excellent color.
