This is a gorgeous specimen of Diplomystus dentatus from Wyoming. This fossil fish is a herring. The fossil is very complete and well articulated. The fish exhibits excellent detail. The bone structure is superb. The tiny bones of the fins are nicely displayed. No color has been added to the specimen. The natural orangish-brown color of the fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well centered on an oval plate of shale. This is a very displayable Diplomystus from the Green River Shale.
