This is a very nice fossil fish specimen from the Eocene of Wyoming. It is a Diplomystus dentatus (herring) from the Green River Formation. This fossil fish has excellent detail. The eye socket is very distinct. The bone structure is superb. The fins are excellent. The fossil has good brown color and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the plate of matrix. This is a great example of a fossil fish.
