This is an excellent stingray fossil. It is a complete Heliobatis radians from Wyoming. This specimen is a female - it lacks the sexual "graspers" that the males possess. The ray has excellent detail - the first close-up photo is large to show the amazing detail. The mouth is easily seen, and the barbs that run the length of the tail are sharp and well preserved. The three large "stinger spines" are all fully intact. And there is even a fossil fish preserved on the plate (rare).
Fossil stingrays are some of the most sought-after fossils in the world. The overall display of this stingray is one of the best we've ever had - both elegant and beautiful. This is a very collectible museum quality stingray fossil.
