Here is a very displayable plate of fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. There are two different fish beautifully preserved on this large slab. On the left side of the slab is a very nice Knightia humilis. This fish has gorgeous coloration and the bone structure is quite evident. The eye socket and fins are easily seen. A large Diplomystus dentatus is displayed on the right side of the plate. This fish exhibits fantastic detail! The bone structure of this fossil herring is wonderfully defined and the fins are nicely preserved. The orangish-brown fish contrast extremely well with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are nicely presented on the large, somewhat oval plate of shale. This is a great example of two different fossil fish from the Green River Formation.
