Here is an extremely aesthetic fossil fish. This is a large Diplomystus poweri from the Middle Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This "tropical looking" fish exhibits excellent detail. The bone structure and fins are wonderfully displayed and the eye socket of the fish is easily seen. The fossil has great, natural orange color and superb contrast with the light colored matrix. This unusual fish is well centered on the semi-rectangular plate of matrix. This is a beautiful specimen of an exotic fish from an area that is producing fewer and fewer specimens.
