This is a rare fish from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. It is Eohiodon falcatus, the mooneye. Modern members of this family of fishes live in swift stream environments. It has been proposed that Eohiodon falcatus may have lived in the adjacent rivers that supplied water to Fossil Lake and occasionally wandered into the lake. This would explain the rarity of this fish in these deposits. This specimen is well centered on a rounded plate of matrix. Some of the teeth are evident in the lower jaw. This is a good example of this rare fish from the Eocene of Wyoming.
