Here is a very nice example of Priscacara serrata from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is one of the most sought-after fish from the Green River Formation. This fossil "sunfish" is complete and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure is quite evident and the eye socket of the fish is easily seen. The fins are wonderfully preserved (the bony spines are all intact) and the open mouth of the fish exudes a certain charm. The brownish fossil contrasts very well with the cream-colored matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on an oval plate of shale. This is a fine example of this wide-bodied fish from the Green River Shale.
