This is an unusual fossil fish. It is a large Peipiaosteus sp. from China. When it was first discovered, this type was thought to be a fossil shark, but further research found it to be a fossil sturgeon. This specimen is large - over 10 inches long. The colors are natural and the contrast against the light-colored matrix is exceptional. The head has excellent detail and all the fins are fully intact and very detailed. This is one of the best examples of this type we've seen.
