Here is an excellent fossil herring from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation. This classic fossil fish is complete and exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure and fins are nicely displayed, the eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the overall shape is quite nice. The fossil has great color and contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The distinct fish is well showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a collectible and displayable example of a large fossil herring from the Eocene.
