This is a very nice specimen of Amphiplaga brachyptera from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This unusual fish exhibits fine detail. The bone structure of the fish is quite evident - the backbone is very nicely displayed, and the fins are well preserved. The eye socket is also easily seen. The distinct brown color of the fish contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fish is well displayed on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an uncommon fish from the Eocene.
