This is a wonderful fossil fish. It is an extremely colorful Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. This fish is beautifully preserved and exhibits outstanding detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. Even the scale pattern is somewhat intact, which is unusual. The sharply-pointed teeth in the open mouth are just awesome - they are easily seen with the naked eye! The fish has excellent, natural color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the squared plate of shale. This is a beautiful example of this extinct predatory fish.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
