This is a very nice plate of two excellent fossil fish. These are Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are well articulated and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is quite evident, the eye sockets are easily seen, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. The orange-brown fish contrast beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fossils are well showcased on the large plate of shale, swimming in different directions! This is a very attractive display plate of fossil herring from the Eocene Fossil Lake deposits.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
