Here is a very nice plate of fossil fish. There are two fine examples of Knightia eocaena on the slab. This specimen is from the famous Green River Formation of Wyoming. Both fish are well preserved and exhibit fine detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are easily seen. The eye sockets are very distinct, and even the backbones are preserved. The fish have great orange-brown color, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The fossils are well showcased on the large, semi-squared plate of shale. And the fish are actually touching each other, which is quite rare in the fossil record. This is an excellent specimen of two fossil herring from the Green River Formation.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
