Here is an uncommon specimen of Leptolepis sp. from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This lithographic limestone is well known for the fantastic preservation of the rare fossils that are occasionally encountered. This fish is complete and has decent detail - the shape of the fish is easily seen and clearly defined. The fossil has good color and contrast and is well presented on the large, natural plate of limestone. This is a rare example of a fossil Leptolepis fish preserved in Solnhofen limestone.
