This is simply an excellent fossil fish. It is a large Knightia from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is extremely well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen, the fins are very defined, and the tail is quite evident. This fish even displays the backbone beautifully. which contrasts nicely with the rock. The fossil fish is well showcased on the cream-colored, rectangular matrix plate. This is a beautiful and collectible example of a fossil herring from the Eocene.
