This is a very fine specimen of Jianghanicthys hubeiensis from the Eocene of China. This fish is complete and exhibits great detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, the scale pattern is present, and the fins and tail are easily seen. The dark brown color of the fish contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The fish is beautifully showcased on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a wonderful example of a Jianghanicthys fish from the Eocene of China.
