This is a very nice fossil fish. It is a large Knightia from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is very well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen, the fins are very defined, and the tail is quite evident. This fish has nice, orange coloration that contrasts nicely with the cream-colored rock. The fossil is well showcased on the large, semi-squared matrix plate. This is a beautiful display example of a fossil fish from the Eocene.
