This is a beautiful multiple plate of fossil herring from the Green River Formation. These are Diplomystus dentatus (top one) and Knightia eocaena (bottom three) from Wyoming. It is interesting that all the fossil fish are naturally spaced and preserved so close together. The distinct fish exhibit very fine detail - the eye sockets are easily seen, the bone structures of the fish are quite evident, and the fins and tails are also nicely preserved. The fossils have beautiful natural color and contrast and are strikingly showcased on the squared matrix plate. This is a very aesthetic, top quality assemblage of four fossil fish of two different types.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
