This is a large example of Mioplosus labracoides from the Eocene of Wyoming. This impressive fish exhibits excellent detail and nice bone structure. The cool, orange-brown fossil contrasts nicely with the cream-colored matrix. The complete fish is beautifully showcased on the very large, squared plate of shale. This is a nice, large specimen (NINE inches long!) of this uncommon predatory fish from the Green River Shale.
