Location: Hajoula, Lebanon
Size: Fish is 4.4 inches long

This is a very unusual fossil fish. It is a complete Pateroperca libanica from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This specimen has long row of dorsal fins and also an extremely long tail. The fish has very fine detail - the large eye socket and upturned mouth are quite striking. The fish has great natural color, which contrasts beautifully with the semi-rectangular plate of limestone matrix. This is an excellent example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
