Here is a fine fossil herring from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is a Knightia alta from the Green River Shale. This type used to be referred to as a ''pregnant'' version of the common type of Knightia, but has now been found to be a different species entirely! This fossil fish is complete and exhibits very fine detail. The bone structure is nicely displayed, and the scales of the fish are easily seen. The fish has great color and contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The fish is well showcased on the large, natural plate of shale. This is a very nice example of this unusual fossil herring from the Eocene.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
