It is a large Ctenothrissa vexillifer from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest, especially recently. This amazing specimen has a bizarre ''sail-backed'' dorsal fin and large, extended fins on the underside. The fish has incredibly fine detail, even displaying the individual bones and large eye socket. The fossil has great color and contrasts beautifully with the large plate of limestone matrix. It is hard to imagine a much more displayable fossil fish. It is a top quality example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
