Here is a nice specimen of Leptolepis sprattiformis from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This lithographic limestone is well known for the fantastic preservation of the rare fossils that are occasionally encountered. This fish is complete and has good detail. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well presented on the large plate of limestone. This is a fine example of a fossil fish from the classic Solnhofen beds.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
