This is a very exotic fossil fish. It is a Pycnosteroides laevispinosus from the Cenomanian Limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This specimen has a very spikey dorsal fin and also spikey fins on the underside. The fish has very fine bone detail, and the large eye socket is quite distinct. The fossil has great natural color, which contrasts beautifully with the squared plate of limestone matrix. It is an excellent example of this strange fossil fish from the Cretaceous coral reefs.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
